Pre-RequisitePlease note, this is an application that requires installation on the Promira Serial Platform. The Advanced Cable Tester - Level 1 Application is a pre-requisite to using this application.
Signal Integrity CheckThe Level 2 application performs Signal Integrity testing, checking all SuperSpeed and USB2 pairs to verify they meet the relevant specifications. Testing is done at 518Mbit for USB2, and at 5Gbit, 10Gbit, or even up to 12Gbit for SuperSpeed lines.
InexpensiveThe Advanced Cable Tester enables this essential testing, without expensive scopes, custom fixtures, and highly trained personnel, saving a lots of money.
E-marker testE-Marker testing reads the data from any present E-Marker, and validates the advertised data and power capabilities against the actual measured parameters of the cable. As with the Level 1 application, fields such as Vendor ID, Product ID, Test ID, firmware and hardware versions can be set by the operator, for easy pass/fail determination of cables through a QA process.

Along with this signal integrity testing, all pins are still checked for continuity, preventing dangerous situations like shorts of VBUS to data signals, VBUS/GND reversal, etc.
DCR and IR DropDCR and IR Drop testing confirms that each power pin (VBUS and GND) is capable of carrying the required current to meet the applicable specification. For Type-C cables, each power pin is individually measured, then the cable as a whole is tested.
A REST APIA REST API is available for integration of the Advanced Cable Tester into a larger test infrastructure. This integration can be very high-level: taking just a real-time pass/fail indication; or much more integrated: retrieving all details for custom processing, analysis, logging, etc. With the Level 2 Application, the eye diagram visualization can be retrieved for any tests run.

The Advanced Cable Tester itself supports testing of both Full-Featured and USB 2.0 Type-C cables. Adapter cards are available for legacy connectors, enabling testing of additional types of cables:

  • A-to-C (USB 2.0 & USB 3.1)
  • A-to-Lightning (USB 2.0)
